Fox studios screened some footage of the upcoming Bryan Singer movie X-Men: Apocalypse at Comic Con over the weekend which has since leaked online in handheld shaky-cam style footage but no official look at the upcoming blockbuster has been released until today. Apocalypse, the main villian, will be played by severely underrated actor Oscar Isaac whose stock has been rising lately and looks to continue the trend with The Force Awakens coming out this December and the upcoming X-Men movie to follow in May of 2016. This image comes in the form of an exclusive Entertainment Weekly cover that also features Michael Fassbender as Magneto and Oliva Munn as Psylocke, the latter of which has yet to appear in a live-action movie to date.
This is the beginning of Fox's marketing push for their big 2016 blockbuster and followup to 2014's fantastic Days of Future Past which means we should receive some official footage before the end of the year. Apocalypse will bring back the casts of X-Men: First Class and also introduce some much younger actors portraying the X-Men that we have seen in Bryan Singer's previous movies.
While I personally am not a huge fan of this character design (does it remind anyone else of Ivan Ooze?), I must admit that I had a similar reaction to Evan Peters' Quicksilver who ended up stealing the show in Days of Future Past. Isaac is a phenomenal actor and the track record with Fox and this property has been mostly successful so I shall save my full judgement until the final credits roll. Feel free to share your thoughts on these new images and check back here for updates as they come out on Apocalypse. In the meantime, check out Entertainment Weekly for even more official pictures including the new Storm and Quicksilver's new costume!
