Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu wowed audiences and critics alike with last year's Birdman and received plenty of accolades and praise earlier this year at the Oscars. Inarritu is following this film up with The Revenant which stars Leonardo DiCaprio as fur trapper Hugh Glass who is tracking down Tom Hardy's character John Fitzgerald after he is mauled by a bear, robbed and left for dead.
Inarritu's nearly all male cast also includes Domhnall Gleeson, Will Poulter and Lukas Haas, so he has plenty of talent to pull great performances from in this dire setting it appears he's creating. Mark L. Smith and Inarritu penned the screenplay as an adaptation of a Michael Plunke novel who has yet to have an adaptation until now.
This is an absolutely phenomenal trailer that will pull a visceral reaction from you in under three minutes. Very little in the way of story is shown here and IMDB can serve you much better in that regard but that's absolutely perfect in my eyes. There's a visual flair and frenetic tone in this trailer that will surely be a pulse-pounding ride if maintained for the entire run time. With almost no dialogue other than panting and grunting if you count that, this showcases the mood and style more than anything else and Inarritu has proven that he has plenty of both to share. This could be a back to back year for Mr. Oscar attention for the director if the film can deliver on the promise of this trailer. Audiences will be able to find out this Christmas when The Revenant is released.
