Holy Crossover Batman! DC's Upcoming 'Justice League' Has Cast J.K. Simmons As Commissioner Gordon

Warner Brothers has been working on their upcoming DCEU for quite some time now and it is nearly upon us with 'Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice' coming out in a couple of short weeks and 'Suicide Squad' coming out later this year. With the upcoming team-up flick ready to start production this Spring, casting news should start rolling in for the supporting characters and the first real juicy bit of this has just dropped. According to The Hollywood Reporter J.K. Simmons has been cast as the new Commissioner Gordon. Brilliant.

J.K. Simmons will be most well known for his role as J. Jonah Jameson in Sam Raimi's 'Spider-Man' films but he also made waves a little over a year ago in Damien Chazelle's 'Whiplash' which earned him a Best Supporting Actor Oscar. Add to the resume his role in 'Juno' as well as some pretty extensive voice-work for animated flicks and you have an actor who has shown quite a fair range.

The intensity that Simmons brought to 'Whiplash' will suit him well in the gritty and grim world that Snyder has started setting up for WB and DC. I'm imagining something closer to this than his performance as Jameson for Raimi but only time will tell. The only negative to this casting news is that it conflicts with previous reports that Jim Gordon would already have passed away in DC's upcoming shared universe. This has apparently changed or it could mean that this will be a smaller role relegated to flashbacks which would be a real shame. Either way, we will know for sure in 2017 when 'Justice League Part I' comes out!
